I ...I recently bought the book and read it tonight. I expected to find pretty much what you write here, but I was surprised at how little information on hair product ingredients there was. Chapter 5, on products and home remedies, is only 13 pages long and the main part of that consists of Lorraine Massey's own potions. I found

- avoid sulfates: "Try to avoid products with the first two ingredients [SLS/ALS]" and a suggesttion to water it down. In another place, some suggestion for milder surfactants. That's about it.
- avoid silicones: "I suggest that you avoid conditioners with silicones. Although they do add temporary shine to the hair, I find they weigh down curly hair". In Chapter 8 about colour, she says at her salon "Sometimes, after a color treatment, we use a gloss, a silicone-based product that restores shine and adds polish to the surface of the hair."
3, 4, and 5: yes.

Have we read the same book? Have later edition possibly been subjects to major change? That's pretty much the only explanation I can think of.kontakthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15604450435187598408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4105016499387697653.post-78336605695683774062009-11-04T03:33:09.398-08:002009-11-04T03:33:09.398-08:00Great post - especially your suggestion to acquire...Great post - especially your suggestion to acquire information and try things out for ourselves rather than blindly following the advice of someone who has never seen our hair.

One thing - I think you may have misspoke in the paragraph about which sulfates are harsh...you list a couple of them as the most harsh and then again as less harsh...2poodleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13925794867733766441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4105016499387697653.post-58319428092385975272009-11-02T07:21:04.112-08:002009-11-02T07:21:04.112-08:00Food for thought and this shoud be compulsory read...Food for thought and this shoud be compulsory reading for anyone thinking about CG and has bought their 'bible' - it's good to get a balanced view. Therefore posts like these which urge people to think first, think hard and don't believe everything you read are really necessaryJchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03983132094574128087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4105016499387697653.post-68146986595189256072009-10-31T22:22:28.061-07:002009-10-31T22:22:28.061-07:00Thanks for some truth to the method!!
